Guns and Roses: Why Own a Gun

The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution reads as follows:

A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

This right to bear arms has been the main reason many people have their own guns. Gun ownership and use have been part of people’s lives ever since firearms were invented. Guns can be used for anything, from hunting, target practice, to self-defense. Firearms are by far one of the most effective personal safety devices, although proper training is needed for safety reasons.

For Hunting

Hunting is one reason to own a 410 handgun — or several other guns. Different game calls for different guns, and so there’s good reason to own more than one shootin’ irons if you hunt various game. Owning guns for hunting is very common in the country, and even has been a custom in some states. The 410 handgun is used to hunt birds and small game, like raccoons and groundhogs, to about 20 yards.

For Target Shooting

Some people enjoy the challenge of putting holes in paper with their guns. Shooting a target is challenging and many of us get a sense of achievement from being able to fire our shots exactly where we want them to go. The feel of the best lightweight hand gun in your hand and the pleasure one gets from this is relative, just like any activity or hobby — but there’s probably no person who do it to shoot inaccurately.

Competitive shooting even helps some shooters focus. It gives them a sense of belonging, as part of the National Rifle Association or any other local gun club. There’s also a sense of achievement when they are able to shoot their targets more accurately compared to their fellow competitors.

For Self-Defense

“The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun,” said the NRA about gun control during the debates that followed the Newtown school shooting.

Self-defense is by far the most powerful, universal, and common reason for anyone to own a gun. Humans have a strong sense of self-preservation, and a gun is very often the best tool to have on hand to fight a threat to one’s life or the lives of their family members. Humans have the right to defend their life, liberty, and property, and most of us choose to do so with guns.

With great power comes great responsibility. And when it comes to firearms, responsible ownership and use is a must.
